Sanctuary, Congregation Beth El
The Blue Sky Team is holding a congregational conversation on Sunday, May 7 at 11:30 am to explore possible partnerships in rebuilding Pilgrim Hall.
The Team has completed phase one of its visioning process, conducting listening sessions and fielding survey results from 176 unique individuals in the church.
For the second phase of its congregational process, the Team will explore whether Pilgrim Hall can be rebuilt in partnership with other organizations to serve important local needs. The Fire Recovery Committee is indicating that this approach may be helpful from a financial point of view as well.
In order to open this conversation to the wider First Church community, the Team is inviting leaders of agencies that might be potential partners to share information with us.
On Sunday, May 7 at 11:30 am, three local justice leaders will share how they or an agency like theirs might partner with First Church to mutual benefit.
We will hear a brief introduction to the work of:
• Resources for Community Development, a local affordable housing developer, from Dan Sawislak, their director,
• East Bay Sanctuary, which offers legal aid to hundreds of undocumented immigrants and refugees seeking asylum, from Sister Maureen Duignan, their director,
• Berkeley Food and Housing Project, which runs shelters, food pantries and offers other wraparound services to the most vulnerable people in our city, from Terrie Light, their director.
The meeting will be short—an hour or so to hear three brief presentations and have a chance to ask initial questions of each leader about realities, synergies, needs, challenges, and the mutual good we might do together.
Our time together will help us understand what’s possible—to stoke our courage and vision. If you are ready to head more deeply into the blue sky, please don’t miss this time together!
