First Church Cloister
For the second year, First Church offers a third Christmas Eve Service—Christmas Eve in the Cloister—at 6 pm on Sunday, December 24. The whole community is invited to gather just outside the First Church Sanctuary.
We will gather in the cloister, with candlelight, hot nourishing beverages, acoustic guitar and powerful singing. We’ll invite our homeless neighbors to join us, and any others looking for a really real observance.
We’ll feel the power of mirroring that first unsheltered Nativity, and worship in solidarity with the displaced Holy Family. Stripped of ceremony, simple and soulful, we’ll celebrate with what’s at hand and in unlikely, impromptu, eclectic community: just like the story we remember. We will have small gifts prepared for the unhoused who come—because in doing so we give to the Christ child.

Because Christmas Eve falls on Sunday this year, a Contemplative Service will be held in the Sanctuary at 10 am.
