The Rev. Elena Larssen will be our guest preacher on Sunday, March 17 at 10 am. Elena's sermon is entitled “It's Not About the Tree.”
Since 2013, Elena has served as the Senior Minster of The First Congregational Church of Long Beach (UCC). She is a graduate of UC Santa Cruz and Pacific School of Religion and studied theater at Occidental College. Ordained to the campus ministry at Stanford University, she previously served local churches in Palo Alto, CA and La Grange, IL and was Associate Conference Minister for the Minnesota Conference from 2008 to 2013; in that role, she was the youngest regional executive in her denomination.
Elena has served nationally in a variety of roles. She is passionate about the power of congregations of all faiths to fight poverty, keep the arts alive, and build a just and tolerant society. She is married to the Rev. Mark Pettis; they have one son and a basset hound.
Elena's visit to First Church is part of a pulpit exchange with Rev. Molly. Molly preached in Long Beach earlier this year.
