On Sunday, February 4, First Church held its 143rd Annual Meeting following worship. This was the first Annual Meeting since the congregation was back in the Sanctuary following the fire. Unable to use the Large Assembly for the meeting, the church flexed by sharing conversations over brown bag lunches in a variety of spots including the new front lawn, and then regathered in the Sanctuary for the rest of the proceedings.
The meeting was chaired by outgoing Moderator Rod MacKenzie (photo center). A slate of Church Council and committee members was elected and Kara Korbel-Chinula (left) took over as the new Moderator for 2018. Leonard Ash is the new Moderator-Elect. Senior Minister Molly Baskette (photo right) shared her State of the Church report, acknowledging both the triumphs and challenges of dealing with changes brought about by the fire of September 2016 and planning for the future. You can read her remarks here…
The church celebrated Carmelle Knudsen who is retiring from her volunteer staff position as Membership Secretary after serving in that position for 21 years.
Also, heart-shaped wooden spoons were given as gifts to all those who have been making soup for the After-Party that takes place after every worship service.
Church Clerk Janet McDonald shared the Membership Report for 2017, including the names of new members, new babies, the newly baptized and those who had died.
