— Willem VandeKamp, Liaison to the Interfaith Coalition for Justice in our Jails for First Church Berkeley
Many members of our congregation live in Alameda County, which is in the process of selecting a new District Attorney, after the recall of DA Pamela Price. This selection is important because it will determine how equitable the judicial system in Alameda County will be in the coming years; the new DA may remain in office for many years. The community is organizing two forums where you can meet the candidates, in addition to the public interviews of the 15 candidates by the Board of Supervisors on Tues., Jan. 21, at 1:30 pm. The DA Accountability Table (a coalition of community organizations) will hold a forum with the candidates on Thurs., Jan. 23, from 5 to 7 pm on Zoom.
Register via Eventbrite to receive a Zoom link for the event here.
The community organizations Justice Reinvestment Coalition and Restore Oakland are planning an in-person and on Zoom forum on Sat., Jan. 25, from 11 am to 1 pm. The location has still to be decided. This forum is with the candidates who are moving forward in the application process. This forum will also require registration via Eventbrite. The link and the location will be published in next week’s Carillon.
The Board of Supervisors will appoint the new (interim) District Attorney on Jan. 28.
