Emerging Music Ministry Leader
First Church Berkeley UCC, a progressive, welcoming community, is recruiting an Emerging Music Ministry Leader to work in partnership with the Director of Music to plan, select and lead music at worship services and church events.
Essential duties include:
- selecting, coordinating and leading music at select worship services and church events, approximately once every four to six weeks;
- coordinating and leading rehearsals, as needed, for selected music;
- other duties as assigned
This is an independent contractor position that requires:
- a familiarity with, and desire to, explore contemporary progressive Christian worship music;
- the ability and desire to encourage the musical talents of community members;
- a proven ability to recruit volunteers and to work collegially with them and church staff
- strong communication skills.

Candidates will be paid a competitive per-set fee, depending on qualifications and experience.
Working with staff and volunteers, the Church Business Manager manages the financial and property management functions of the church to ensure that the administrative needs of the congregation are well-served.
Essential duties include:
- managing the church’s financial operations.
- supervising the Bookkeeper, Event Coordinator, Weekend and Evening Coordinator, and Event Host(s).
- developing and implementing a vision for maximizing our income from assets.
- attending staff meetings, Stewardship, Finance and Administration (SF&A) meetings, and Church Council.
This is a .8 FTE salaried position with full benefits that requires the candidate to:
- be comfortable working in a progressive church environment.
- have proven ability to develop, analyze, explain, and manage a million-dollar budget.
- have experience supervising employees, including on-boarding, training, and conducting regular reviews.
- be vaccinated against COVID-19.
- work onsite.
