The words and reflections of author Alain de Botton encourage us to think about purposefully modifying our self-expectations to abandon a quest for “perfection” and choose a “good enough” standard in its place. We will discuss de Botton’s recent book, “The School of Life: An Emotional Education”, as it takes up different facets of life in the 21st Century which, the author contends, wrongfully push us to conform to concepts of Romanticism that originated ages ago in philosophical circles. Love, friendship, relationships, and realistic self-assessment are included among the topics in this thought-provoking book.
