Service as Worship Sunday – Aug. 11, 2024

Sun., Aug. 11, 10 am

Let’s bring some JOY!  After singing and praying together during a brief worship service, let’s support our local community by working on a project or two.  If you can’t be there in person, your service could be in the form of a donation to Second Sunday Sandwiches or by providing school supplies for the Church World Service school kits.

Sanctuary and Outdoor Clean Up:  Join members of the Stewardship, Finance & Administration (SFA) Ministry in the Sanctuary to clean the pew woodwork and tidy up the pew racks.  SFA will have two outdoor clean-up teams; one for the front of the church and one for the parking lot.  Please bring work gloves, rakes, and brooms for raking leaves, weeding, mulching, and picking up trash.  Look for Nick in the Sanctuary/Hall of Entrance.

Church World Service Northern California School Kits:  Join Susan Shome and Doris Lynch from the Justice and Service Ministry in putting together 20 school kits for children, so they have the supplies they need to begin the school year.  See the list of supplies here and bring them to church beginning July 28 or on Aug 4.  Look for Susan and Doris in the Hall of Entrance.

Second Sunday Sandwiches:  Assemble sandwiches and other goodies into a bag lunch for our unhoused neighbors.  Sign up here if you would like to donate items for the lunches. Look for Richard in the Hall of Entrance.

Make Bindings for Quilts for Formerly Incarcerated Men: Join Janet McDonald in making bindings for quilts that will be lovingly given to formerly incarcerated men. This project is in conjunction with the Dream Center Quilt Project. Work will involve sewing straight seams with a sewing machine.  If you have a sewing machine and/or iron, please bring them, and if possible talk to Janet ahead of time.  Email Janet with questions: [email protected].  Look for Janet in the Pillar Room.

Organize Pool Equipment for SNAPkids:  Help Dori Maxon, Founder and Director of SNAPkids, sort and label pool toys and equipment for the swimmers of SNAPkids.  Look for Dori in the Cloister.

Cards for our First Church Kids:  Join Rev. Hannah in creating “Beginning of the School Year Blessings” for all the children and youth in our FCCB family. Look for Rev. Hannah at the round tables on the Patio.

Support Care First/Jails Last:  Please join the Interfaith Coalition for Justice in our Jails (ICJJ) in making calls and sending emails to the Board of Supervisors urging them to fully support the recommendations of the Care First/ Jails Last Task Force that will lessen the chances that people with mental illness will end up in our county jail.  Just 10-15 minutes at the ICJJ table will help send a strong message. You’ll need your phone; script guidelines will be provided. Questions: [email protected]. Look for Micky in Loper Chapel.

Operation Love Notes:  Join the Deacons in writing notes filled with love and warm wishes for members of the community who aren’t able to join us in person.  All materials provided. Look for Julie/Deacons in Loper Chapel.
