“Bless This Mess” — Parent Book Discussion Series

Sundays, March 13, 20, & 27, 11:30 am to 12:30 pm

Join other First Church Berkeley parents of toddlers through high schoolers after the 10 am Sunday worship service for a three-week discussion group, beginning March 13. The discussion will begin 15 minutes after worship ends, giving families time to socialize and get soup during the After Party, and then bring their children to the Play Yard (weather permitting) for supervised childcare while they meet. The discussions will last one hour, ending close to 12:30 pm.

Now that we can be in person again, this will be a chance to get to know new members and parents you may not have met yet, or get to know some better. First Church member and mom, Ann Naffziger, will facilitate. The discussions will be based on topics from Rev. Molly’s book Bless This Mess: A Modern Guide to Faith and Parenting in a Chaotic World. Free copies of the book are available to anyone who wants to join in the group—you can pick one up in the church office during the week, or snag one from Rev. Molly or Ann on Sundays. While reading the book ahead of time is not required, we’ll focus our conversations on chapters 7, 6, and 9 with the hopes that you’ll get a chance to read those before the meetings: Sabbath: How to Make Every Day Holy, Service and Community: How to Follow Jesus and Routines and Rituals: How to Turn Holidays Back into Holy Days. Whether you are feeling out of your depth parenting your kids in whatever stages they are in now, or things are feeling more manageable and settled currently, we’ll all have wisdom, ideas, and empathy to share with one another as we navigate what very well may be the hardest job in the world.
