The Blue Fire Team presented their recommendations to a robust webinar with 100+ participants on Sunday. In their presentation, the team recommended constructing a New Community Building on the Pilgrim Hall site. This new building will be 8,000-10,000 square feet in size, constructed with green building principles and an eye toward accessibility. It will house a fully enclosed large assembly with access to a terrace to offer indoor/outdoor flow in good weather, a kitchen, classrooms, offices, conference rooms and library. The church’s architecture team is working on floor plans and sketches that will be shared in an upcoming webinar on Sunday, May 17

In addition to the New Community Building, the committee recommended that the church explore options to lease or sell its land near Durant House to an affordable housing developer. The money raised from this affordable housing development will be used to create an endowment that can help strengthen the church’s long term financial picture while also addressing a critical housing need in Berkeley and the East Bay.

The team will be available to answer questions this Sunday, May 3 after worship. Zoom meeting information to follow.

There will be a congregational forum on Sunday, May 17, via webinar to present the New Community Building drawings and updated information.
The congregation will be asked to vote on the committee’s recommendation by paper ballot, which will take place between May 17 and June 6.
