Thurs., May 30, 2024, 6 to 8 pm
La Peña Cultural Center, 3105 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley
You are invited to attend an in-person, awareness raising event concerning Care First, Jails Last. An Alameda County Task Force has been working on a list of recommendations to reduce the number of people with behavioral health needs in Santa Rita Jail, to promote that care comes first, and that jails are a last resort. The Task Force is expected to present their report to the County Board of Supervisors on Mon., June 10. In preparation, Restore Oakland and the Care First Community Coalition (formed by organizations and community members), are organizing an awareness raising event. At the event you can learn about the recommendations, and there will be a panel discussion with time for community input. The event will take place at La Peña Cultural Center in Berkeley.
You receive this invitation because First Church is a member of the Interfaith Coalition for Justice in Jails (ICJJ), and the Coalition is participating in the Care First Community Coalition. We hope you will join us that evening, to live up to our tradition of caring about justice in this Mental Health Awareness month, as a WISE congregation, engaged in the mental health in our community.
For questions, contact Willem VandeKamp, liaison for First Church to the Interfaith Coalition for Justice in Jails.
