Newsom’s office (916/445-2841; option 6 to speak to a representative) this week? SB 54 is a first law of its kind to reduce the amount of single-use plastic packaging in the marketplace and hold companies accountable for the waste they produce. This law is a major victory for our ocean planet because it:
- Holds producers accountable for meeting strict standards for plastic packaging reduction, recycling, and waste management.
- Requires producers to bear the cost associated with their packaging decisions.
- Directs funding toward cleaning up our environment and California communities most impacted by plastic pollution.
