First Church Triathlon Update

Sat., Sept. 3, 9 am
Encinal Boat Ramp, 190 Central Ave., Alameda

In the do-it-yourself spirit, all First Church members/friends/family are welcome to join in or come cheer at this informal triathlon in Alameda on Sat., Sept. 3 at 9 am. Participants can choose to do as much or as little of the route as they would like. You could even do it as a relay with friends or family members.

For those who don’t want to raise their heart rates, please bring a lawn chair and come and cheer on the participants. Everyone is invited to bring snacks and stay to socialize afterwards.

The starting and ending location is the Encinal Boat Ramp, 190 Central Ave., Alameda. It is directly behind Encinal High School. There is a parking lot, a small beach, picnic tables, restrooms, and an outdoor shower head. You can also launch paddle boards or kayaks from there.

The swim – we’ll walk into the water at the Encinal Boat ramp, swim out to a buoy that’s approximately 1/8 mile away and back to where we entered the water. Some people are choosing to swim 2 laps, in which case, they’ll start first and when they begin their second lap the others will begin. Note that there will not be a lifeguard. Kids MUST be accompanied by an adult.

The biking route is 13.3 miles total (out and back route). The route is flat and follows along the Bay almost the entire way. A map is here: https://tinyurl.com/3c6ddvd6
