Equality of opportunity guarantees a just society. Or does it? What is the rhetoric of rising in society and how are we misled by it? Why do people vote for candidates who do not represent their interests? In this session we will explore the foundations of a just society and how this informs these questions. We will look at how merit affects education and the world of work and we will explore theological and social aspects. This will build on the recent book “The Tyranny of Merit” by Michael J. Sandel.

Ron Elsdon will facilitate this session. Ron is the author or editor of several books, one of which is about social responsibility.
