Local UCC Climate Hope Affiliate Group Forming – Find Out More

Sat., May 3, 1 to 3:30 pm
Arlington Community Church (52 Arlington Ave, Kensington)

The Environmental Justice Ministry of the national office of the United Church of Christ (UCC) has recently established its Climate Hope Affiliates (CHA) program; a program to empower people of faith to address the related issues of climate change and societal injustice.  I’m writing to invite those of you who have zeal for these two issues to participate along with me and several members of our First Church Green Team.

The UCC program is designed to facilitate our local CHA group in meeting with our congressional representatives, in using the media, and otherwise engaging the public to move the needle on climate change action, especially as it affects social justice. We’re part of an East Bay organizing group, and we’ll receive training and coordination with other groups across the US. The first push will be to work against the congressional efforts to rescind the climate-related elements of the Inflation Reduction Act.

The launch workshops for our East Bay CHA group will be at several East Bay locations on Sat., May 3 from 1 pm to 3:30 pm. Our group will meet in person at the Arlington Community Church (52 Arlington Ave, Kensington), and we’ll take our first mini-step at the workshop’s end.

It’s clear that this will involve a commitment of time.  It’s also only one aspect of resistance to the present onslaught on issues that we care deeply about.  But for those of us who have an affinity for the issue of the climate and its relation to justice, it’s an opportunity to focus and exert coordinated effort and power.

The CHA program is led by our church, but it also welcomes those who aren’t church connected who care for this effort.  Please invite people who you think might want to be involved, and please contact me ([email protected]).
