Oct. 13 Learning Hour: An Important Conversation about CA Prop 36

Sun., Oct. 13, 2024, 11:45 am
Loper Chapel

Join us for an important conversation about CA Prop 36 with Willem VandeKamp,
First Church liaison to the Interfaith Coalition for Justice in our Jails (ICJJ). Prop 36
is on the ballot for the November elections with the purpose to undo Prop 47,
which California voters approved in 2014. Prop 47 reclassified certain
offenses concerning theft and drug possession as misdemeanors. This greatly
reduced the jail and prison population and made many millions available for
crime prevention, treatment services, and K-12 schools. Prop 36 would
contribute to a big increase in incarceration, disproportionately impacting
people of color. ICJJ opposes Prop. 36. So, please join us on Sun.,
Oct. 13 to have a conversation about this before you vote. For more
information, read the latest ICJJ Newsletter here, and also learn
about Prop 6, which intends to abolish enforced labor in CA prisons.
