Help Feed Our Hungry Neighbors

Please Bring Peanut Butter & Cereal Donations

First Church has a long tradition of bringing creamy peanut butter and healthy cereal for the offering every Sunday. This food goes to support the Berkeley Food Pantry’s efforts to feed the hungry in our community.

It’s heartwarming to see these gifts of food blessed at the altar on their way to those in need. If you’d like to help carry the peanut butter and cereal up for the blessing, stop by the donation table before the service. Everyone is welcome to participate.

The Berkeley Food Pantry (BFP) knows First Church as the “Peanut Butter and Cereal Church.” We’ve been collecting peanut butter and cereal for the folks who stand in line at the BFP since October 2014! We called BFP recently and they are delighted that we will resume our food donations as we shift to in-person worship.

Throughout the pandemic, the BFP has altered their support to hungry adults and families by pre-packing bags of groceries. They get these groceries from the Alameda County Community Food Bank and steadfast parishioners of the host Church – Berkeley Friends Church – and other individuals. They are eager to receive our contributions – low sugar cereal (look for the WIC sticker on the store shelf) and creamy/smooth peanut butter (not crunchy.)

Find us by the bright green banner, right inside the main doors, in the Hall of Entrance! We’ll be there to receive your donations. Thank you for remembering our neighbors who use the BFP for basic grocery items. For more information on the BFP, check out their website: berkeleyfoodpantry.org
