After many months of work, richly rewarded, the Berkeley Historical Society exhibit, “Roots, Removal, and Resistance: Japanese Americans in Berkeley,” is currently being mounted over at the Berkeley History Center, located on the ground floor of the Veterans Memorial Building, 1931 Center Street, in downtown Berkeley. The exhibit opens with a reception from 3-5 pm on Sun., Oct. 13 and runs though April 2025. The History Center is open Thurs.- Sat., 1-4 pm.
One precious artifact is a model barracks made by the late Berkeley native Mas Nakata, a Topaz survivor, displayed at Berkeley Methodist United Church every February near the date of Roosevelt’s Executive Order #9066. I hope you will all come at some point during the 6 months the exhibit is in place to see this and other compelling displays.
