I am thinking of you all and hoping that the clearer skies have been a breath of fresh air and relief for you.
I am grateful for the improved weather and hopeful that we can get our Village finished before mid-November. Getting folks off of the streets into stable housing is of paramount importance right now – winter will be here before we know it, and for those without shelter, that’s not so much of a cozy thing.
This Saturday we will need LOTS of volunteers at our Village site at 633 Hegenberger Road in Oakland. Volunteers will be helping out with yurt raising, cleaning the site, painting fence planks and house exteriors, completing construction on the houses, and more. We will need some help from skilled builders with finishing up our interior walls, electrical wiring, and flooring in the houses and yurts. There is more than enough space at Hegenberger to social distance, so please feel free to bring friends and helpers. The build will start around 9:30 and will last until around 4:00. We will also have a build this and next Sunday at the same place and same time. Let me know if you’re planning to come help either of the days!
As a reminder, there are no more builds happening at our studio at 1740 Alcatraz Ave. in Berkeley. Going forward, builds will take place exclusively at Hegenberger.
We are planning more opportunities to varnish cabinets as well, so please reach out to me if you are a skilled painter or varnisher and are interested in helping!
Lastly, we are looking for volunteers who can manage our sign-in and waiver form table on build days. This could be a great job for you if you want to help out, but are less comfortable doing the more physically demanding tasks. Please let me know if this is something you’d like to do!
I can’t tell you how grateful we are for all of you, especially for your effort over these last few weeks. Your passion for this project is definitely felt and deeply, truly appreciated.
