Vote to Update Church Bylaws

In December of 2023, when our congregation voted to have Co-Senior Ministers, we noted that the Church Bylaws would be updated to reflect this new option. An ad hoc Bylaws Committee was formed last summer, consisting of Julie Greer, Rod MacKenzie, Janet McDonald, Laura Monroe, and Jeanne Strauss.

The committee worked to accommodate our leadership change and to edit other aspects of the Church Bylaws, so that the document would support our church as it currently functions, almost 10 years after the last update. Following the advice of legal experts and the United Church of Christ National Setting, we also strove to include only what was legally required for a nonprofit corporation’s bylaws, deleting sections that were better addressed in statements of faith or other documents.

An updated version of the Bylaws has now been reviewed by attorneys and approved by Church Council. The Bylaws (current and proposed) require a two-thirds vote of the voting members present at a Congregational Meeting to adopt changes. We will hold this vote at our Annual Meeting on Sun., Feb. 2, 2025. Please click the links below to review the new Bylaws prior to the vote. Thank you. A summary of the edits is also included here, as well as the current Bylaws for your reference. If you have questions or concerns about any of this, please contact Jeanne Strauss ([email protected]).
